The Big Top

by Erin Hug

Director: Richard Lavery

Production Company: Accidental Theatre

A community circus troupe is under takeover threat from a large multinational circus empire, in this exciting production. Exploring ideas of nationalisation, family and consumerism in Northern Ireland.

When the corporation BigMart decides to take over a family circus, tough times get even tougher – especially since the BigMart executive in charge of the takeover is the family’s estranged daughter. The family’s fight for their circus is a battle of little collectivism vs. big capitalism, but also an exploration of avant-garde and mainstream art, a comedy about who you love and where you come from, and a gorgeous hybrid of physical and verbal storytelling.
